What if you are running the program on a remote server that does not have a
gui or browser? Can you authenticate once on a different machine (for
example a developer machine) and copy the token to the machine with the
server running-- or is the credential bound to the original authenticating
machine's ip address?

Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,
*Can you authenticate once on a different machine (for example a developer
machine) and copy the token to the machine with the server running*
Yes; if you have no GUI or web service running on the machine, that will
work. The tokens are very long lived.

Thanks,
Dean

[Inside AdSense] Demystifying AdSense policies with John Brown, Head of Publisher Policy Communications (Part 1)

Editor's note: Today's guest author is John Brown, the Head of Publisher Policy Communications. He'll be sharing valuable insights about Google AdSense program policies with us.

We know that many of you have a steady income from AdSense to support your business. We also know that you are working hard to keep your account in good standing and we want to help you stay compliant with our policies while you publish your content the way you want.

We've defined AdSense program policies to ensure we all preserve a healthy digital ecosystem for the benefit of all users, advertisers, and publishers. We've gotten a lot of feedback from you that there's more we could be doing to make our policies clearer. To demystify any uncertainties or questions that you may have, I'd like to share more details on AdSense policies over the next few months.

Hi Tianyi,

the tokens last a long time (I don't have specifics but months+)

you could try doing it yourself without the client but it is non-trivial -
take a look at the PHP example which uses helper methods - we don't have
examples or a guide for doing that.

thanks,
Dan

Tianyi Cong <tianyi@insticator.com>: Apr 09 09:09AM -0700

Hi Dean,

Thanks for the reply, is that means I can do the web service call the get
the token for authentication instead of using the java api? That may be
simpler, seems like.

I also want to persist this authentication, so me and my partners don't
have to do it every time they want to check the report. I found some thread
in the forum, but it is not very clear.

Can you please elaborate the process to achieve this? Can I just persist
that token, or it will expire after a certain amount of time and I have to
swtich to another one? If so, can it be done grammatically instead?

Thanks,
Tianyi

Peter Forth <pforth@stockreflex.net>: Apr 07 05:38PM -0700

I am trying to download our adsense account's spend for our reporting
system. Since my tool is going to be running on a remotely hosted server
and just accessing our single account, I initially I tried using a "service
account". This seems to have been a dead end. That being said, it also
doesn't seem appropriate to use a "web" or "installed" credential since
these type of credentials require you to open up a url in a web browser...
something that is not available if you are running on a remote server via
ssh. Surely you can't just hit the url from another computer with a
different ip address?

My current reference for this can be found at:
https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/tutorials/python-guide

I also notice that it spends a lot of code parsing command line parameters,
but doesn't actually seem to pass any in. What is the purpose of the
command line parameter parsing.
"Dean Lukies (Adsense API Team)" <adsenseapiadvisor+lukiesd@google.com>: Apr 08 10:27AM -0700

Hi Peter,

Service Accounts do not work with Adsense.

What you need to do is authenticate once, then store the returned token and
reuse it for future calls.
Most of the examples (
https://developers.google.com/adsense/management/libraries ) do this (some
may require a change depending on the language) - look for *offline access*

thanks,
Dean

Hi All,

I have a java web application and I'd to use AdSense management API to
retrieve reports but I am stuck at the authorization part.

Seems it requires OAuth2. I looked the sample code from this github URL,
but seems it is for AuthorizationCodeInstalledApp.

Is there a sample code I can take a look at for a java web application?
Please share some code or ideas with me if you are familiar with this
process.

Thanks in advance!
"Dean Lukies (Adsense API Team)" <adsenseapiadvisor+lukiesd@google.com>: Apr 08 10:20AM -0700

Hi Tlanyl,

we don't have java web specific example.

You could take a look at the OAuth2
<https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/OAuth2WebServer> page and
maybe the PHP sample for guidance.

thanks,
Dean

Hi there,

I have had no other reports of this; if you are able to replicate it please
let me know?
The suggestion I have is, if the error message contains information about
the server they can't connect to, you could ask them to work with their ISP
to resolve.

thanks,
Dean

Hi there,
we have some users reporting a problem with the association of their
AdSense account to our host account. The problem described is that they
can't reach the adsense signup page where we redirect them after the
associationsession.start api call, like the server is not responding. We
were not able to reproduce the error, but it looks like a problem with a
server or with its connectivity toward some italian isp.
Do you have any other reports of this kind of issue? Can you please check
if there is a problem?

Do you have any update about the problem with the association of AdSense
accounts using AdMob I reported monts ago?

Thank you

Hello,

you will need to get the token with a one-time, user interaction; after
that you can use the token to do server to server.

thanks,
Dean
